100 Mile race details
Course Description
The 100 Mile course is an out-and-back on the Tunnel Hill State Trail, a converted rail corridor through the Shawnee National Forest. Runners start in Vienna, IL, heading north on crushed limestone to the Wetlands Center turnaround at mile 50, then return south. The surface is consistent, fast, and flat — making it the ideal venue for world-record attempts.
Key Rules & Requirements
- Runners must arrive at all checkpoints before posted cutoff times
- Pacers are permitted from Mile 50 (100 Mile) onward
- Headlamps required — runners will be on the trail in darkness
- Drop bags available at designated aid stations only
- No mules, bikes, or wheeled support on the trail
100 km race details
Course Description
The 100 km distance follows the same crushed limestone Tunnel Hill State Trail. Runners travel north to a turnaround point at approximately mile 31, then return to Vienna. This distance offers the same fast, flat profile that has produced multiple world records.

50 Mile race details
Course Description
The 50 Mile course is an out-and-back beginning and ending in Vienna. Runners head north on the Tunnel Hill State Trail to a 25-mile turnaround. This is also the host course for the 2026 USATF 50 Mile Road Championships.

- Pacers permitted from Mile 25 (turnaround)
- USATF Championship entrants must hold active USATF membership

Marathon race details
Course Description
The Marathon course follows the same fast, flat Tunnel Hill State Trail. Run north to a 13.1-mile turnaround and return to Vienna. This is as close to a perfect BQ course as you'll find — flat, smooth crushed limestone with zero traffic.

- No pacers for the marathon distance
- Marathon runners must start with all other distances at 7:00 AM
